Eye Health and Vision Exams

The Yin Eyecare team believes that keeping your eyes healthy is important. Eye exams should be an annual event to be pro-active in detecting a number of eye health conditions. Scheduling your annual eye exam can help detect eye health conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration before they can become serious.  Vision and visual needs can also change with growth and age so having an up-to-date vision correction will allow you to see better and function with greater comfort.  We provide eye examinations for patients of all ages, including infants.

Dr. Yin will discuss with you any existing vision problems, your general health, and even ask about your working environment and special interests to better tailor the exam to your needs.  We take the time to explain your visual conditions and options to you at the conclusion of your exam.

Not only will Dr. Yin measure your overall vision to determine if you have any vision conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia and binocularity problems, but she will also look for any early indicators of possible eye disorders, such as cataracts, retinal diseases and glaucoma.  If you are new to Yin Eyecare, please allow about one hour for your first appointment.

Contact Lens Evaluations

If you need new contact lenses, are unhappy with your current contact lenses or want to try contacts for the first time Dr. Yin can provide your contact lens services. In order to prescribe contact lenses, Dr. Yin must evaluate the health and focus of your eyes, determine the proper contact lens type and prescription based on your vision needs, corneal health and curvature. If you are trying contact lenses for the first time or changing to different contact lenses, then at a follow-up contact lens visit she will examine the contact lenses on your eyes to ensure that you are able to achieve good long-term vision and comfort.

Contact lens examinations have different levels of difficulty depending upon your vision correction and the type of contact lenses needed to give you good comfort and vision.  If you are interested in contact lenses, we will be happy to discuss your options with you. Our recommendations are individually tailored to each patient and are based on many factors including your glasses prescription, visual needs, overall health and eye health.  Contact lens examination and follow-up visits are additional services and not included in the fee for the initial comprehensive eye examination.  Fees are variable depending upon the level of services necessary for your visual correction.

We also provide all types of contact lenses, including disposable, gas-permeable and multifocal lenses.

Medical Eye Care

As a doctor of optometry, Dr. Yin is fully trained and licensed to provide care for both sudden and long-term eye problems, including eye injuries, infections, dry eyes, glaucoma, cataracts, styes, blepharitis, and floaters.   We can remove small foreign objects from the surface of the eye and under the eyelid and treat red eyes.  We participate with most major health insurance plans.  If you have an eye health problem, please do not hesitate to call our office in Overland Park for an appointment at 913-341-3900.  We offer same day appointments for urgent eye health conditions.

Optical Services

We want to help you see well and look your best.  Our experienced optical staff can provide information and guidance in choosing eyeglass frames and lenses that will allow you to see clearly, are comfortable and flatter your face. Our opticians will inform you about the options on lens materials, styles and coatings that can enhance your vision and the cosmetic appearance of your glasses.  We offer all of the latest lens options including free-form progressives, multi-layered anti-reflection coatings that are easy to clean,  polarized sunlenses, photochromics (changeable tints such as Transitions), Trivex, high index (thinner) plastics and aspheric lenses.  We are happy to provide repairs and complimentary adjustments on eyewear.  You are welcome to drop in at any time for optical services.
